Pinnacle’s open learning pack “An Introduction to Care” is designed to meet the needs of carers in all settings.
Aim
The aim of this course is to equip carers with the underpinning knowledge to support them in the performance of their duties. In addition the course is designed to create an understanding of the importance that must be placed on providing a sensitive and compassionate approach to their daily activity whilst maintaining at all times the client’s dignity. We believe that the benefits of participating on this course are great in terms of personal development as well as allowing the learner to achieve a formal qualification.

Programme Content
The course consists of five core contents:
- Communicating with Clients
- Personal Hygiene
- Eating and Drinking
- The Care of Pressure Sensitive Areas
- Elimination
Course Delivery:
This course may be taught or delivered via a distance-learning workbook with course assessments, project work and a case study. On completion candidates will test their knowledge sitting a multiple choice question paper. Units may be studied independently or as part of a study group within their own work place.

DEMENTIA AWARENESS
This Pinnacle course may be taught or delivered via distance learning and is designed to increase the students’ understanding of all aspects of dementia. It is believed that the benefits of undertaking this course are great in terms of personal development and in increasing an awareness of all issues surrounding dementia.
Aim
The aim of this course is to increase an awareness of the problems faced by the onset of dementia.
To develop an understanding of what dementia is.
To raise an awareness of the needs of clients suffering from dementia.

This Pinnacle course may be taught or delivered via distance learning and is designed to increase the students’ understanding of all aspects of infection control. It is believed that the benefits of undertaking this course are great in terms of personal development and in increasing an awareness of all issues surrounding infection control.

To increase an awareness of the need to adopt high standards of personal hygiene

COURSE TYPE:
Certificate in Managing Violence and Aggression
Applicable To
All carers working within an elderly care setting. Tailored towards clients experiencing the onset of dementia, or those suffering with anxiety & categorised as low to moderate risk of aggression.
Objective
The course is designed to assist the carer in the management of a situation in which a client has become aggressive or violent towards care staff. It helps the student understand the causative factors that can trigger aggression, and likewise the role the carer has in preventing an aggressive incident from occurring.

COURSE TYPE:
Client Handling 3 Hour Workshop
This course is intended for all persons who work in the care sector industry and are involved in Client Handling.
The aim of this programme of study is designed to develop candidates’ knowledge and ability to help support the care duties during their working day.
Programme Content
Introduction to Client Handling
Anatomy review.
EEC legislation.
Posture and movement.
The ergonomics of manual handling.
Risk assessment.
The principles of safe manual handling.
Practical client handling to include.
Turning a client in bed.
Sitting a client in bed.
Standing transfers.
How to assist walking.
Sitting clients forward.
Transfer of client from bed to chair.
Course Delivery
This workshop will include demonstrations of all the above with and without the use of aids, followed by supervised practice of all moves in a role-play situation.
COURSE TYPE:
INCONTINENCE CARE
This course may be taught or delivered via distance learning and is designed to increase the students’ understanding of all aspects of incontinence care. It is believed that the benefits of undertaking this course are great in terms of personal development and in increasing an awareness of all issues surrounding incontinence care.
Aim
On completion of this training module, care staff should:
Understand the basic structure of the bladder and how it works together with the composition of urine
Be able to define incontinence
Know the different types of urinary incontinence, their symptoms and causes
Understand the physiological effects of aging in relation to incontinence
Be aware of aspects of the environment that affect continence promotion
Be fully aware of how incontinence is managed and how the carer can help
Be conversant with the principles of skin care for people with incontinence
Comprehend the care of a catheter, and incontinence products.
